EFFECT OF Fe2O3 ON THE DENSIFICATIONAND PROPERTIES OF LIME

http://www.lookchem.com

Sintering of lime by one- and two- step calcination hasbeen investigated. Samples obtained by double stage calcination always exhibithigher bulk density than those of single stage process. Fe2O3helps in the sintering of CaO by liquid phase formation at the sinteringtemperature. The grain size of sintered lime is higher in the presence of Fe2O3additive. Fe2O3 containing samples have improved hydrationresistance due to their larger grain size compared to Fe2O3free samples. Lime samples containing 4 wt.% Fe2O3 andsintered at 1600_C have CaO as the major phase with a small amount of dicalciumferrite phase (C2F). The maximum flexural strength at 1300_C isachieved by the samples containing 2 wt.% Fe2O3 andsintered at 1600_C.
